When receiving a notice of smart matches, how does one narrow down/search the long list of all the trees which have matches. For example, I receive a notice of matches in the Sally Achord Family Tree, but when I try to follow it, every tree with any match comes up ( I have over 8000 matchs). I see no place to to search for Sally or Achord. To make matters worse, the matching trees are listed according to greatest number of matches so there is no way to look alphabetically unless willing to scroll forever. I must be missing something. Overall I have been very disappointed in My Heritage and find all of it counter intuitive and difficult to use, including the Family Tree. The times I have tried to use support have been singularly unhelpful so I've just given up on that.
I am not sure if you are understanding my question. Is there no way to search for a specific match either before or after the list of all matches which comes up automatically? Is there no way to locate that specific match when you are trying to see more info about that match without scrolling thru every name on the list? I don't know any other way to ask the question. I can't believe that this feature is not already available in My Heritage. Without it, the matching component (which sells the program) is virtually useless. Using the matching icon with a preson highlighted on the Family Page In FTB I can't even figure out how to bring up the matches for only that person. I would really like to use this program since I paid so much for it, but I'm beginning to think it may not be for me. We have a lot of discussion in our genealogy groups about the value of new programs and I would like to give My Heritage a positive rather than negative review. I would really appreciate answers that I can understand, or if my questions aren't clear a response asking me for more clarification of my problem.
In Family Tree Builder, you can see the matches for a specific person by clicking on the little green smart match sign in their card in the tree. They will only have that icon if there are matches for them. You can also just go into smart matches and change the view from individuals or trees. Although, you cannot search for people from Family Tree Builder.
When looking at your matches on your family site, you can sort them according to individuals and then use the ctl f buttons to search for a specific person.
I see you are working with family tree builder. Although it is currently not possible to clear Smart matches or to sort them on your family site (this feature will be available in the future), you can mark smart matches as ‘rejected’ in Family Tree builder.
In order to do that, go to the smart matches tab, and click on ‘ change status ‘ .
We are working on a new version of Smart Matches that will be out in upcoming months with many improvements.
I have been using Smart Match in Family Tree builder for a few months and am starting to get the hang of it. It is annoying to have old "rejected" matches still coming up, but recently I found hundreds of my family in Denmark and Sweden because of the connections through Smart Match. It was worth the poor returns to get the great ones. I have had hits now on about 6 different family trees from Europe and North America.
It would be great if you improved Smart Match, but it is worth having available. I am about to load a GED family tree so that I can have others edit the tree. I am wondering how Smart Match will work in the on-line version. I suspect that it lacks the abilitye to import content from the other tree. Is this the case? This isa great part of Smart Match in the builder program.
That's great to hear about all your success with smart matching results!
Smart Matching on the family site is less advanced in general. You cannot merge matches (much as you suspected), and you cannot confirm or reject matches.

I saw someone noting the lack of merging trees-option, and I am glad I am not the only one wanting this.
It's so silly for everyone in the family to have to make a huge tree, when instead one who's already done so could have everyone link to this tree. My uncle is making a big tree and we just assumed we would be able to link it to my user when I created one. But instead I have to make a tree as extensive as he does, incase someone checks out my profile...and my sister and my parents would have to make theirs aswell. Why cant we just do the Smart Match and merge it?
That way it could be merged also between bigger families that are tied through marriage aswell. Arghh! Will this be a feature soon? You'd think it was a given that this was an option. It must be a real spacesaver.
If you use the Family Tree builder program you can merge content from some one else's tree into yours. One thing you don't seem to be able to do is merge content from your own trees. It seems that Smart Match will not find trees that you yourself create - therefore no merge of content.
I recently found a tree with hundreds of my family from Denmark and Sweden on it and had to select only a few key people into my tree. It was a great find that filled in some interesting parts of the tree dating back to the 1650s.
I have recently been experiencing some troubles with my Family Tree Builder Program showing Smart Matches. When I add a new individual, the program shows that it has located a Smart Match. But when I click to see the results, it says that no Smart Matches were found. I had this same problem a few months ago, but it straightened out after a few days. This time the problem has been going on for nearly a week and a half.
I have the latest version of the program. What could be causing this problem?
I will try to publish my tree back onto the site and see what happens then. I am not sure if that is what might be causing the problem, but I will let you know.
When I go to install the new version of the program, it comes up with an error saying that insufficient space is available in my drive to install it. I have made sure that there is enough room to install it, but it will still have the same error. For some reason the old version does not give me the problem,
If Vista is telling you that you don't have enough space, you could have a problem with the "Restore Points". I lost most of my hard drive because Vista was set to unlimited Restore Points. I eventually recovered the unused space by restricting the number of Restore Points. It should take up no more than 15% of the hard drive. In my case it took up more than 50%. You can download a tool called "WinDirStat" which will diagnose how much junk Vista is storing without your knowledge.
