How do I convert my online tree to one I can use in Family Tree Builder?

If you built your family tree in Family Tree Builder and need to get a copy of your tree from your family site, you should be here: Can I restore my Family Tree Builder tree from my family site?

If you built your family tree on your family site on MyHeritage.com and would like to start using Family Tree Builder please follow these steps to transfer the file to Family Tree Builder:

First, open a browser and log into your Family Site on MyHeritage.com. Then, go into Family Tree > Manage Trees in your Family Site.

Click on the ‘export GEDCOM’ link next to a specific tree in your list of family trees. This will save your family tree to your computer as a file with a .ged extension. Please note that you can only export a GEDCOM file from a family site if you are logged in as the Site Manager of that site.

Once you have the file downloaded, and you have Family Tree Builder installed on your computer, you can double click on the GEDCOM file that you exported and it should open up automatically in Family Tree Builder.

This should restore your entire project, except for the photos.
